Top 5 Hot Hatches in 2024

As the UK weather fairs miserably throughout the start of 2024 it got us thinking, what are the top 5 hot hatches in 2024? Should you go new? should you go old? What’s the best all rounder?

Well, we’re lucky enough to have owned many hot hatches within the SwapAuto team so we thought we’d have a debate and share our thoughts!

2017 Mercedes A45 AMG

Why not the new shape you ask? Well, apart from the lack of sound, excitement, character and soul, we think it looks a bit naff. An AMG needs to be shouty, scare you on the corners and make elderly people Tutt as your drive past and unfortunately, the new A45s just doesn’t give that vibe. The previous generation however, oh what a machine that is. 4 wheel drive, aggressive shifts, a thundering exhaust note and a well thought out exterior and interior. The 2017 A45 is a fantastic bit of kit, the way it makes you feel and how it adapts to UK B-roads is just phenomenal. This machine feels planted at all times, quick on the straights and even enjoyable at low speeds with the pops and bangs. If you’re looking for a hot hatch, do not rule this one out!

Hyundai i30N Performance

Hyundai as a brand have really come into their own within the past few years. Having taken their learnings from WRC and applying it to their road cars its really propelled the brand to new heights. Enthusiasts across the UK have seriously taken to this little road weapon they call the i30N and with the new Semi-auto gearbox version having just been released, its safe to say it’ll be popular with the kids. The main reason we love the i30N however, is bang for buck. Its not an incredibly costly car to maintain or purchase (all things considered) and for the package… what more could you ask for?

Renault Megane RS280

WE know… its french, but reliability and lack of available parts aside these cars are fantastic. If you opt for the additional CUP Chassis you also get an LSD and Brembo brakes (take it from us, they’re a must!) and considering CUP and sports versions are near identical in price on the second hand market, it should be an easy find. Again, albeit French, these cars are serious weapons, the 4 wheel steer party piece mixed with the wide track lead for a brilliant drive. The car grips on corners, packs a punch on turbo acceleration and don’t get us started on those looks. If you can find one in orange, buy it!

Audi RS3

Of course we were going to have an RS model somewhere in this line-up and many of you probably guessed it to be the RS3. The RS3 has been around for years and with good reason. The daily practicality mixed with the sheer performance is a no brainer for most looking for a daily driver. That being said, maintenance on these is costly so if you’ve got the bank for the buck, feel free to squeeze the cheese! On a lighter note, any RS3 2013 onwards will get you to 60mph in around 4s flat so don’t worry about stretching for a new one.

Toyota GR Yaris

I’m sure you’re sick of hearing about these now! They’re all over YouTube, everyone and their dad has done a car review on them and they’re not exactly unpopular on the roads (even considering the limited production run). And so… we won’t go to into it with this one as you know its good, what we can say though is, its 30k for a Yaris… maybe wait a year or two for them to drop and then you have yourself a very reliable and fun WRC car.

All jokes aside and lack of proper informative information, these five cars we think, are the best Hot Hatches to look into if you’re considering buying. Each, in its own right has its flaws and benefits so go test drive them all and see which tickles your fancy! (preferably through a dealer then buy one cheaper privately through us 😉
